क्या है भगवान शिव की तीसरी आंख का रहस्य

भगवान शिव की तीसरी आंख के संदर्भ में कई सारी कथाओं का वर्णन किया गया है. ऐसी ही एक कहानी है कामदेव की. एक बार दक्ष प्रजापति ने भव्य हवन का आयोजन किया और उस हवन में माता सती और भगवान शिव को भी आमंत्रित किया गया. लेकिन वहां पर शिव के साथ हुए अपमान को माता सती सहन ना कर सकीं और उन्होंने आत्मदाह कर लिया. इस घटना के चलते भोलेनाथ इतने टूट गए कि वो वर्षों तक घोर तपस्या करते रहे.

कहा जाता है कि समय के साथ माता सती का हिमालय की पुत्री के रूप में फिर जन्म हुआ. लेकिन भगवान शिव अपने ध्यान में इतना लीन थे कि उन्हें किसी बात का अहसास नहीं था. सभी देवता चाहते थे कि जल्द से जल्द माता पार्वती का शिव के साथ मिलन हो जाए. लेकिन उनके सभी प्रयास विफल साबित हुए. फिर अंत में उन्होंने स्वंय भगवान कामदेव को मदद के लिए बुलाया. कामदेव ने अलग-अलग तरीकों से भगवान शिव का ध्यान तोड़ने की कोशिश की लेकिन वो विफल रहे.

इस के बाद कामदेव ने एक आम के पेड़ के पीछे से पुष्प बाण चलाया, जो सीधे शिव के हृदय में जाकर लगा और उनका ध्यान भंग हो गया. अपने ध्यान के भंग होने से महाकाल इतने क्रोधित हो गए कि उन्होंने अपने तीसरे नेत्र से कामदेव को भस्म कर दिया. अब देवताओं को इस बात की संतुष्टि थी कि भोलेनाथ का ध्यान समाप्त हो गया. लेकिन इस बात का दुख भी था कि कामदेव को अपनी जिंदगी का बलिदान देना पड़ा. जब कामदेव की पत्नि ने शिव से गुहार लगाई कि उनके पति को पुनः जीवित कर दें, तब शिव ने कहा कि द्वापर युग में कामदेव भगवान कृष्ण के पुत्र के रूप में फिर जन्म लेंगे.

एक अन्य कथा के अनुसार, जब भगवान शिव अपने ध्यान में मग्न थे तब माता पार्वती ने अपनी दोनों हथेलियों से उनकी आंखों को ढक दिया. इसके चलते पूरी दुनिया में अंधेरा छा गया था.

कहा जाता है कि उस समय महादेव ने अपनी तीसरी आंख से इतना प्रकाश प्रजुलित किया की पूरी धरती जलने लगी. तब माता पार्वती ने तुरंत अपनी हथेलियां हटा लीं और सब सामान्य हो गया. इस कथा से ये पता चला कि भगवान शिव की एक आंख सूर्य के समान है तो दूसरी चंद्र के समान.

Many stories have been described in the context of the third eye of Lord Shiva. One such story is of Kamdev. Once Daksh Prajapati organized a grand havan and in that havan, Mata Sati and Lord Shiva were also invited. But there Mother Sati could not tolerate the insult done to Shiva and she committed self-immolation. Due to this incident, Bholenath was so broken that he kept doing severe penance for years.

It is said that with time Mata Sati was reborn as the daughter of Himalaya. But Lord Shiva was so engrossed in his meditation that he did not realize anything. All the deities wanted that Mother Parvati should unite with Shiva as soon as possible. But all his efforts proved unsuccessful. Then in the end he himself called Lord Kamdev for help. Kamadeva tried to break Lord Shiva's meditation in different ways but he failed.

After this, Kamadeva shot a flower arrow from behind a mango tree, which went straight into Shiva's heart and distracted him. Due to the dissolution of his meditation, Mahakal became so angry that he destroyed Kamdev with his third eye. Now the deities were satisfied that Bholenath's meditation ended. But it was also sad that Kamdev had to sacrifice his life. When Kamadeva's wife pleaded with Shiva to bring her husband back to life, Shiva said that Kamadeva would be born again as the son of Lord Krishna in Dwapar Yuga.

According to another story, when Lord Shiva was engrossed in his meditation, Mother Parvati covered his eyes with both her palms. Due to this there was darkness in the whole world.

It is said that at that time Mahadev ignited so much light from his third eye that the whole earth started burning. Then Mata Parvati immediately removed her palms and everything became normal. From this story it was known that one eye of Lord Shiva is like the Sun and the other is like the Moon.
